CASH BONDS

To be released on what is called a cash bail, an individual must post cash with the court in the total amount of the bail, to secure his or her return to court on an appointed date, and thereafter until the case is concluded. Full cash bonds usually provide a powerful incentive for defendants to appear at his or her trial. If the defendant shows up for his or her scheduled court appearances, the cash is returned. If he or she fails to appear, the cash bond is forfeited to the court. Posting large amounts of cash is somewhat prohibitive for most. A percentage of the amount of the bond is usually more obtainable for the individual or his or her family.
